If you haven’t heard of zhu zhu pet hamsters by now, you are living under a rock!  Zhu zhu pets are the biggest craze of the 2009 Christmas season.  They are already out of stock from major retailers such as Toys R Us and Walmart.  However, a select few merchants have them available (such as through us!).

But, if you are still unaware of what zhu zhu pets are, I will explain it to you!  Zhu zhu pet hamsters are cute and cuddly toy hamsters that are battery operated which make different sounds and gestures on their own.  They seem to react to their environment and behave like a real hamster!  There are currently 4 hamsters available: Mr. Squiggles, Num Num, Chunk, and Pipsqueak.

But, zhu zhu pets have evolved to the toy they are today.  They were originally called Go Go Pets and for whatever reason changed their name to Zhu Zhu.  I am not sure why, but I would imagine because of marketing reasons the name zhu zhu sounds better and is more memorable.

Another thing for parents to realize about the zhu zhu pets before buying them, is that the brilliant marketers have made sure that you need all of the accessories they sell.  There are complete hamster houses available that have tunnels between rooms.  Each room mimics a real room such as a bathroom with a toilet that flushes!  These houses are a must have to really enjoy the zhu zhu pet hamster experience.  Beyond the houses, there are items such as carriers and blankets so that you can take your pet hamsters anywhere you go.

I have even seen that they cars and skateboards that the hamsters can operate all by themselves!  These fun accessories adds to the overall experience of owning your zhu zhu pets.

Compared to real hamsters these are great for your kids.  They might be expensive, but they never die and you never have to change their newspaper! . . . . Maybe they are saving that feature for the next generation of zhu zhu pet hamsters
